23rd edition of the Friperie-Boutique
RECORD AMOUNT FOR THE THRIFT SHOP
The 23rd edition of the Aube-Lumière Thrift Shop raises a record amount of 85 396$.
The amount was unveiled during the lunch gathering the majority of volunteers from La Friperie.
Behind this record amount of money raised for La Maison, there is a team of dedicated volunteers and, at the head of this team, there is Diane Roy.
Diane Roy participated, as a volunteer, in 21 of the 23 editions of the Friperie. For more than ten years, she has therefore devoted several weeks, in the fall and spring, to sorting and reselling clothes for La Maison. Since 2018, she has been the team leader of the 55 volunteers who ensure the success of this important fundraising activity.
When her husband died in 2001, Diane decided to get involved in her community. Her children were already grown and lived outside the province, so she had time to offer for good causes. Already active as a volunteer in other organizations in the region, Diane decides to join the team of volunteers at La Maison Aube-Lumière because she has her mission at heart. She first works for the Poinsettias Campaign before hearing about the Aube-Lumière Thrift Store.
«At the time, the room was as big as our fitting rooms today», remembers Diane.
The premises grew from year to year and profits also increased. Indeed, the first edition had raised 15 000$ while this last edition raised 70 000$ more, a remarkable progress. In total, since the first edition in fall 2014, 937 460$ has been raised thanks to donations and then the resale of thousands of clothes… which were first sorted, sometimes reshaped then hung by a volunteer.
Over the years, Diane has developed a real passion for this responsibility that she takes very seriously. The work begins two and a half months before the opening of the shop and during the five weeks of sales to the public, Diane is present from morning to evening, five to six days per week.
Diane appreciates contact with the clientele and she is very attached to the loyal volunteers with whom she works. «Several of them have become friends», she points out.
